This was the final day of our Summer Peace Project. With the hard work and dedication of our religous leaders and all our volunteers, parents and children we were able to build our peaceful communities. Children along with their leaders completed their projects. It was so exciting to see the final work of art that was displayed by each group. Children and volunteers personalised their shirts with their handprints. Children enjoyed playing games outside and looked forward to the Block party in the evening.
Summer Peace Project Day 3
Children, youth and adult leaders worked together as they continue to build their peaceful neighborhoods with the Community Center, Daycare, Peace International Airport, Tower Mall, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Police Station, Mart mart and Peace apartments. We also had the opportunity to listen to two community helpers, A Librarian and a Police Officer. Children had a good time and enjoyed the day.
Day 2 of our Summer Peace Project. Children continued to work together to construct their community buildings. They listened to each others ideas and plans to accomplish their projects. They enjoyed music and dancing. They relaxed their minds and bodies through meditation. It was a wonderful experience to see the children work together building a community with peace and harmony.
Our Interfaith Summer Children’s Program took place Aug. 14 – 17. We explored what it means to “love our neighbor”. Using a program developed by the producers of “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”, children ages 5 (completed kindergarten) to 12 created their own neighborhood and learnt what it means to build community together. This program was sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Old Bergen Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Christ United Methodist Church, the Islamic Center of Jersey City, Church of the Incarnation, St. Aedan’s Roman Catholic Church, and Temple Beth El. The program took place at Old Bergen Church, Jersey City.
